Mitch McConnell Shows His True Colors
There are reports this week that current Senate Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell in, is pleased with congressional Democrats attempt at impeaching President Trump, who has exactly seven days left in office. It is reported that he hopes it will purge Trump from the GOP.
Now, these are just reports, McConnell’s office declined to comment, but I would not be surprised if they were true. It’s no secret that McConnell is no fan of President Trump. It says in the report "As stunning as Rs moving against Trump would be, the alternative is that he sticks around and makes their lives/careers hell for the next four years (at least.)” This shows the true nature of McConnell and many establishments politicians in the GOP.
Before Trump, the establishment GOP did nothing but slow down the left from furthering their progressive agenda. This was the status quo for many years. Democrats would do and say crazy things, and then the GOP would throw their hands up in protest and ultimately do nothing. Politicians like McConnell loved the status quo, they get to pretend that they are serving the American people while they enrich themselves off the fruits of their labor.
Then in 2016, Trump comes along, and he does something that the establishment GOP hated… He made them work. Donald Trump came in and called out the GOP for their inactivity, and McConnell was at the front of this firestorm. Trump rocked the boat, and it made them uncomfortable.
Donald Trump’s biggest sin was disturbing the status quo and making establishment elites have to stand for something. Trump, with all his faults, was anti-establishment, that is why he got such a visceral reaction from the establishment. He called out leftists for their extremism and called out the GOP for their inaction. I’m not saying Donald Trump was a perfect president, far from it, but he was effective at the things that he wanted to be accomplished
McConnell and many establishment politicians want things to go back to normal, but that will never happen. The last four years have changed everything, almost half of the country voted for Trump. To turn your back on Trump would ostracise at least a quarter of the country, and that is a portion of the country that the GOP needs. Whether Mitch McConnell likes it or not, Trumpism is here to stay. There is a highly motivated group of conservatives that will hold the establishment Gop accountable, and I don’t think a last chance impeachment attempt will change that.
